Cranial Osteopathy

Manual Therapies

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions.  It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.

For your body to function well, its structure must also work well. Osteopathy works to restore your body to a state of balance, by the use of touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help the body’s own healing mechanisms. Advice about posture and exercise is often given to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms reoccurring. Patients include the young and old, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people.  Patients seek treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including back pain, repetitive strain injury, changes to posture in pregnancy, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries.

Traditional acupuncture is a branch of traditional Chinese medicine, a tried and tested healthcare system, practiced over many thousands of years as part of the traditional medicine of China, Japan, and other eastern countries.

The earliest records of acupuncture date back over 2000 years and it is thought to have begun with the discovery that stimulation of specific areas of the skin affects the functioning of certain organs.  It has evolved into a system of medicine that restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points just beneath the body surface.  These points are very specific locations and lie on channels of energy.  Moxibustion, the warming of acupuncture points through the use of smoldering herbs, is often used as a supplement.  Both are powerful forms of medicine and can be used for treating a wide range of conditions, in particular musculoskeletal pain; headaches and migraine; stress, anxiety and low energy; digestive and respiratory conditions; and infertility, menstrual and menopausal conditions.  Many patients often report the feeling of wellbeing after each session.

Cranial Osteopathy

Osteopaths vary their treatment methods according to their patients’ problems and  one of the techniques at the more subtle end of the spectrum of different treatment approaches is  Cranial osteopathy which is a refined and gentle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very soft manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body, including the head.  It is extremely effective in treating a wide range of conditions in people of all ages, from birth to old age.
